The Nordic Walking CO was formed to bring the joy and pleasure of Nordic walking to the general public. What many Europeans have known for a long time to be a fun, flexible and effective form of walking is relatively new to the United States. Nordic Walking CO was formed in Colorado, the most active state in the country, to enhance the outdoor and fitness activities of its vibrant population as well as to feed that population’s hunger for the newest and most effective fitness activities with which to enjoy and experience the unparalled beauty of the local environment. Nordic Walking CO provides a resource for education, equipment and training for walkers of any age and fitness level so they can quickly and conveniently get out the door and appreciate all the enjoyment this new sport has to offer.
World Champion Nordic walker and Fittrek Master Trainer, Sally Richards of Evergreen, comes to Nordic walking from her extensive experience with fitness walking and racewalking. Sally won the 2006 World Nordic Walking Championships in October, 2006 at the Portland Marathon. She is a former member of the US National Racewalk Team and the current holder of a World Masters Racewalk Record at 3,000 meters and American Masters Records at 15 Km and 20Km. Sally was inducted into the Colorado Sportswomen Hall of Fame in 2000. She has coached walkers of all shapes, sizes and fitness levels for the last 13 years. Sally's first exposure to Nordic walking was from her extensive ski racing career as she had trained trail running with ski poles for summer dry land workouts as a ski racer for Ski Club Vail and then as a member of the F.I.S. University team, racing throughout Europe.
Sally's appreciation of Nordic walking comes from the fact that the sport appeals to walkers of all levels who are looking for a low impact activity with great fitness results. Sally teaches a growing number of clinics and also specializes in organizing walking tours and getaways in North America and Europe.
