Nordic Walking CO and Sojourns International are pleased to offer an unforgettable small group walking adventure centered in Chamonix, France. Chamonix has long been considered one of the most magnificent alpine villages in the world. This is your chance to explore a land of legend; full of history and sporting feats, and a natural  environment that will take your breath away.
Chamonix sits in a lush valley at the foot of the dramatic Mont Blanc, Europe’s highest peak. Chamonix is well-known as one of the world’s premier centers for walking, hiking and mountain climbing. Chamonix has a unique location bordering Switzerland on two sides and Italy on the third which allows us to make forays into these countries on our diverse daily walks.
Walking excursions which will vary from trails in the valley of Chamonix to hikes from Le Brevent and La Flegere which are on the opposite side of the valley from Mont Blanc and offer stunning views of the mountain, to forays into Switzerland and Italy. Geneva is a short 35 minute drive, and the Italian villages of Courmeyeur & Aosta are a just short drive away through the Mont Blanc tunnel. Plenty of time will be left to explore other sites of interest as well or take advantage of the in-house spa.
Accommodations will be the wonderful Balcons du Savoy which offer charming and comfortable apartments, all with beautiful alpine wood décor and situated just walking distance to the shops, cafes and restaurants in the heart of Chamonix. From your private deck you will enjoy looking out over a spectacular green meadow to a magnificent view of Mont Blanc. Meals will vary from catered breakfasts to sumptuous picnic lunches and fabulous dinners in local restaurants featuring regional “Savoyard” specialties such as ‘Raclette’ or cheese fondue.
This tour will be led by Sally Richards who is well-known for her athletic achievements in the sport of Nordic walking (Nordic Walking World Champion 2006, former World Veteran’s Champion & current holder of several American & World Master’s records in racewalking). Sally has offered walking clinics since 1993 and is also known for organizing and leading a variety of active trips, including walking and fly fishing, throughout Europe for many years. Sally lived in France for seven years, including Chamonix for one year. She attended the University of Grenoble, France and later returned to the United States where she taught French. Sally speaks French fluently and will be offering French Lessons as a bonus to trip participants.
